In this article, I will tell you about our short but very intense visit to Naples in southern Italy. With only a backpack on our back and comfortable sneakers on our feet.
It all started with Ryan Air's offer for cheap plane tickets to Naples, which were right around March 8. I thought about it for a day or two, said to myself "Why not?" and bought them. An ideal opportunity to celebrate women's day with my little daughter Maya. Big Gabi studies in Leeds, England and was unable to join us.
On March 8, the flight was in the evening - at 9:15 PM we were at the Naples airport. At 10:00 PM we were already drinking white wine in the restaurant that I had liked 5 minutes from the house where we slept. The restaurant is this: PASTARE – the only one I found that works until 11:30 PM. I recommend it with both hands if you are near Garibaldi Central Station in Naples.
I will just add here that these kinds of short trips are most profitable if you live in a city with an airport. For example, Sofia. We live in the Kardzhali region, which automatically adds 2.5 hours in one direction. This does not bother me, although the trip is as long as the stay itself. I love traveling and I also love experimenting. However, some people may not be so positive about traveling, which is why I note it.
And so we slept well and when we woke up in the morning, the sky had opened up and it was pouring down on Naples. We knew it would rain – we always check the forecast on yr.no and we were prepared with an umbrella and leather sneakers. We waited for it to cool down a bit and at 9:30 we set off.
I had previously mapped out a route that starts from the Garibaldi room and ends at the coastal street Santa Lucia (link to Google Directions: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jSsoE244yCyH1FTp6 )
My idea was to leave from the place where we were sleeping and slowly reach the sea, then take the metro back to the station, where we would catch the shuttle to the airport.
On this route, we passed through the historic center of Naples on Via dei Tribunali with all its small, neat shops and traps and through one of the numerous graffiti with the image of Maradona. We drank delicious caramel and ice cream cappuccino at El Boss del Cappuccino. The Santa Chiara Monastery impressed us with its impressive building, colorful stained glass windows, lavish mosaics and what not. Exceptional beauty.
We visited the Torture Museum (5 euro entrance fee), which wins our second place for the most attractive site in Naples. In the museum you will see evidence of human cruelty and perversion, which apparently has no limits. Most of the artifacts are from the dark ages of the Middle Ages and the Inquisition, and some of the torture devices used will make your hair stand on end. After the museum, we walked through the richly decorated Catholic church Chiesa dei Santo Filipo e Giacomo and after that it was time for lunch. We chose a small cozy restaurant, almost next to the church, where we enjoyed delicious Marinara and Margherita pizzas.
